Turf Laying Glasgow

Turf, also known as sod, can simply be described as functional grass. Turfing is an alternative to the otherwise tedious process of seeding.

With turf, you can expect the same result almost instantly. This is especially useful for homeowners with pets and little children who may disturb the seeding process or just can’t be inconvenienced by the waiting time.

Let’s be honest; the process of growing your lawn from seed level is just not worth the hassle to most people. The lawn, after all, is meant to serve decorative and other functional purposes. Then why go through the entire planting process?

A turf provides you with everything you need out of your lawn but in a shorter amount of time.

Types of Turf

  • Natural turf

Natural turf is like normal grass but of superior quality. It is grown to the highest of standards to eliminate the problems that are usually associated with normal growing grass, i.e., stones and weeds.

With natural turf, you can expect all the functional and aesthetic benefits of a lawn but with better quality.

  • Artificial turf

Artificial turf, unlike natural turf, is made from polyethylene plastic grass. It does bear some semblance to the real thing from afar, but up close, the difference becomes more obvious.

Artificial grass is often used in sporting fields, but several complaints have been raised by athletes who complain about the discomfort associated with the grass

As a lawn, artificial grass is admittedly more durable and easier to maintain, but it’s not as aesthetically pleasing as the real thing.

Real Turf Vs Artificial Grass

Quite often, people like to mistake turf grass for artificial grass, and with good reason. For one thing, they are both considered to be “fake grass.” They’re not really grass, but they were created to resemble the real thing. That being considered, it’s only logical that they are different terms used to refer to a similar object.

Add to the fact that for the longest of time, artificial turf was the most popular kind of artificial grass available. But luckily, with technological innovation working in close effective to providing eco-friendly options and that’s where natural turf came in. It’s because of how long artificial turf was around that has added to the fact that people still think it’s the same thing with artificial grass.

However, there are quite a few notable differences between the two. Aside from the fact that both are made to resemble the real thing, i.e., natural grass, there’s also the functional difference between turf and artificial grass.

Turf, for example, was made for a more functional purpose. It was made durable and able to withstand tension for its use on sports fields. This makes it almost completely different from artificial grass that was made for more aesthetic and decorative purposes.

Just like there are differences, there are similarities. One is how easy to maintain they both are. That being said, it’s important to know that not all grass that is categorized as “fake grass” is the same.
